I spend a lot of time online and have done for years and over that time many happy, sad, odd, nasty, fantastic things have happened to me online and off. This blog is about all of that and more.

Hey thanks for checking out my little blog. A bit about me: I'm a web designer for a Catholic Hospital in Nebraska. I love my job and it's allowed me to learn so much about design and code etc etc. all at their expense, not mine, hehehe. I have a daughter, she's nearly 12 and the pride of my life. You can check out her website at Sweetiepete.com. She loves it when people sign her guestbook :) That's enough for this space. If you want to know more, read the blogs! :)

Life Online

So where do you get most of your breaking news? On telly, in the newspaper or online? Thinking back on it, I reckon I've gotten the majority of major news events from the oddest sources online. It's amazing really, and I wonder how much credibility I would be given if I sad that I heard about Princess Diana's car accident and subsequent death on TCZ. Lisa 'Left eye' from TLC's death? I heard that on the Placebo forum. September 11th? Yes, I heard about it online. Within minutes of any major news event, millions of people have heard about it and are talking about it. Is that a good thing? Or should we just remain in ignorant bliss until Dan Rather tells us about it on the 6 o'clock news?

I don't know. Technology is amazing but sometimes I think people were generally happier back in the days before all of this global community stuff. But on the other hand, without the net I'd probably still be doing crappy telemarketing so bollocks to that theory. yesterday i had a very long and interesting discussion with a good friend about gun control laws in my country and his (he's from the UK) and it was very interesting to me to hear his very strong views on rising crime rates and lax sentencing rules in Britain today. And all of this stemmed from the tragic school shootings in Germany yesterday where 18 people were killed. On the Placebo forum, there is a thread about it full of people who are very anti-government and they're extremely vocal about their view that responsible people should be able to own a gun to defend themselves. Of course that could be shouted down with 'How do you determine someone to be responsible?' The majority of violent criminals were once 'responsible' people themselves. They held jobs, maybe had a family. but as my friend said, all that could be out the window when thy step into the bedroom to find their wife in bed with someone else. Got gun? Shoot wife and lover.

Prosecutor: And you own this gun?
Defendant: Yes. I bought it for self-defense.

Now I've gone of a different tangent but that's ok, I'm sure my one and only blog fan won't mind :D I would actually love to continue on this topic, but a cousin of mine is turning 2 today and I must go get ready for his party - and remember you heard that first, on the net!

Ohhh my gosh I'm so sorry (Seminole - you don't have to get mad again, I'll write!). Well I sort of got caught up in a project online that's rather exciting and has been a lot of fun. The lovely bloke who runs the official Placebo site is starting up a sort of 'fan zone' where fans of the band can contribute a theme page related to the band. I.e., I'm doing Placebo WAVs, because I love doing them and I've got a bunch on my own Placebo website. So the page I put together with all my sound files will be incorporated into the official site. How cool is that? It's such a unique idea and just one more reason the BSH stands out as top quality among other band sites. Some other fan areas include another gorgeous site filled with Placebo wallpapers for your desktop. Another has got fun and silly little games you can play, like an online slide puzzle and madlibs etc. One fan is responsible for their section but anyone can contribute. It's such a funky way for the fans to be involved with their favourite band.

So anyway that's where I've been. I finally finished putting my section together today. So now I'll get back to blogging. Which reminds me, I need to get on my daughter to do her blog too. She's slacking!

I also need to get the TCZ Digest in gear. *sheesh*. So much to do. I had hoped to get an issue out be next week but I don't think it will happen. If I haven't mentioned it before, the Digest is just my little online newspaper within TCZ. One of our excellent coders created all of the code necessary for it and now it's up to me to hire staff, come up with stories for each section, make sure the editors are riding their staff to turn in articles etc etc :) It was up and running a couple of years ago and went down rather well. But some major obstacles are getting the staff in line and submitting, and making sure everything that *does* get turned in is edited properly. It's a big job and one that has been held up due to users having babies (Congrats again chickie!), others on holiday, that kind of thing. Hopefully things will settle down and we can get down to business. I'll keep you posted! For now, it's goodnight.
