I spend a lot of time online and have done for years and over that time many happy, sad, odd, nasty, fantastic things have happened to me online and off. This blog is about all of that and more.
Hey thanks for checking out my little blog. A bit about me: I'm a web designer for a Catholic Hospital
in Nebraska. I love my job and it's allowed me to learn so much about design and code etc etc. all at their expense, not mine, hehehe.
I have a daughter, she's nearly 12 and the pride of my life. You can check out her website at Sweetiepete.com.
She loves it when people sign her guestbook :) That's enough for this space. If you want to know more, read the blogs! :)
I'm teaching my first ever class tomorrow and I'm a little nervous. One of the Veeps at the hospital is really quite umm, how can I say this delicately, limited in his knowledge of things you can do with a computer. He's a lovely guy and of course, very good at what he does, but he doesn't know a gif from a jpeg :) So he sort of wrangled me into giving a little class to a few people who also expressed interest in learning how to edit their photos from their digicams/scanners. I am still not quite sure how this all came about. One minute it was an offhand comment from the veep saying I should teach a class and me just laughing at him to suddenly he's booking the room and loaning me his ultra-delicious laptop and ordering pizza for a two hour class.
Oh well. I'm getting paid extra for it so I'll not complain. I am a bit of a wreck though. I'm much better at teaching people one on one. It's better if they're able to get a hands-on experience but I figure I'll run them through the powerpoint presentation I built and then just let them get on the comp and try it out themselves.
So that's what I've been working on lately. Online I've been helping test stuff for the Placebo site. It's been a lot of fun, not to mention all of the things I'm learning about design and the capabilities of the Internet. I haven't done much with my own site lately but one thing at a time :) I may be able to multi-task with the best of them but I have my limits.
Right, I'm off to practice my presentation. Ta ra!
Hmm. I'm not removing any of my entries so you can check all you like - it's staying. (Sorry if that makes no sense to anyone reading this - this entry is specifically directed). This is an online journal on my own personal website and has nothing at all to do with the BSH or its forums. I'm entitled to write about whatever I like on my own site, and as this particular blog is about the things that happen to me online, and our little incident happened online, it's natural I'd write about it. I didn't mention names, I didn't even say anything that bad (believe me, I could have). You are the only person who would have known who I meant . Of course now, several people know and you're only making a fool of yourself. Get over it already, get on with your life and stop acting like a child running off to 'tell on me' to the owner of the Placebo site. He has nothing to do with this journal.
On the other hand, I can see this becoming a recurring theme in this blog tho *lol* "June 23, 2002 - had another run-in with the obsessive today..." It could become like a soap opera :) hehehe.
Sometimes I wonder if I can keep up with the wonderful world of the web. Just when I think I've mastered some new concept on the Internet for my job, along comes some new technology I've got to learn. I can see the end of the tunnel but the more I walk it, the farther away it becomes.
Ok that was my mini-vent for the evening. I put a desk together for sweetiepete over the weekend and the first thing she did when I manoeuvered it into her room was hook up her computer :D That's my girl.
Speaking of things I need to learn, I am trying to get my head around Flash. I'm getting my feet wet with Swish first which I really love and have learned quite a bit. But everytime I open Macro Flash, the complicatedness just does my head in. I need to take a full day or two and just jump into it. I have a chance at work to rebuild the entire hospital website from the ground up using the latest stuff and all the bells and whistles and it would just suck if I don't know all I need to know. I have to teach myself how to build and maintain databases (yeesh :( I need to hire a techie person to mess with all that stuff. It's not my thing), work out how to utilise QTVR technology to give really cool virtual tours of the hospital among other things. I'm excited about it all :)
Anyway sorry this is so short. It took me ages to build that flipping desk.
