I spend a lot of time online and have done for years and over that time many happy, sad, odd, nasty, fantastic things have happened to me online and off. This blog is about all of that and more.
Hey thanks for checking out my little blog. A bit about me: I'm a web designer for a Catholic Hospital
in Nebraska. I love my job and it's allowed me to learn so much about design and code etc etc. all at their expense, not mine, hehehe.
I have a daughter, she's nearly 12 and the pride of my life. You can check out her website at Sweetiepete.com.
She loves it when people sign her guestbook :) That's enough for this space. If you want to know more, read the blogs! :)
You are terminally ill. You're going to die from some form of cancer and lie slowly languishing in a hospital bed, wasting away to nothing. Now a doctor comes to you with a choice: He can build a sort of block in your brain using drugs and hypnosis that cuts off any signals your brain sends to your tumor or tumors. The catch? You will lose your memory. Any attachments or bonds you have with people will be severed and you won't even recognise them on the street. The plus side is you'll end up in complete and total remission - you won't even know you had cancer.
Would you do it?
I saw a film tonight about this very interesting question. First, pardon my ummm, inner teenie, but I was checking out Elijah Wood's filmography at imdb.com because, well I just think he's cute :). Of course I think he's got talent coming out of his ears and have been a fan of his since his Huck Finn days, but gosh didn't he grow up well. Anyway, I came across the film 'The Bumblebee Flies Anyway" at imdb and I have to admit the user comment on that page piqued my interest. The film was especially poignant for me after losing my aunt recently to a wretchedly slow and debilitating bone cancer. What if fighting something like that could really just be a question of mind over matter? I've seen similar theories, such as having the patient visualize their tumor as slowly beginning to shrink and I always wondered if that sort of thing worked. This film does the same thing: makes me think. You should check it out.
Anyway, enough deep thought for one night. I'm off.
Christmas can be so anti-climactic. I've spent a month looking forward to watching my daughter open her presents, and now that it's over I'm left wondering, "Now what?" She was well-pleased with it all though so that's nice. All in all it was a nice Christmas. I enjoyed dinner with the family, and seeing that all the gifts were well-received. I even got a few, which I wasn't expecting. My grandparents gave me a beautiful picture of my mother that had been touched up and resized and it made me cry. Christmas is a wonderful time of year, but I really miss my mom and dad - and now my aunt. My sister wasn't able to come back for it... I think that's why I sort of went overboard on gifts for my daughter. I wanted her to dwell on the good part of Christmas and not the sad part.
Anyway, back to work today. It was difficult to go back, especially since half my hospital was still on holiday :) It was a very quiet day. The kid stayed home alone so I had her put on the webcam so I could keep an eye on her. Dead handy that is - except when she's pulling faces to distract me. Little widget.
Recently I've been to the cinema... a lot. We went to see Harry Potter of course - about four times. And then of course, LotR, The Two Towers - three times in the theatre. I've got both downloaded now *shame on me!* I just can't wait clear until next May/August to see them again. Don't worry I'll be buying the DVDs anyway. So anyway, being one of those people who absolutely adores films and can watch them over and over and not tire of them, I decided to create a little film page within my site. I like doing screen caps from movies once in a while and I post them on my forum so I'll link them on this page; as well as WAV files, links to nice movie sites I find and, (and this took ages to type up) a nearly complete list of my movie collection. I think what films people own says a lot about their personalities. So I like it when people list stuff like that. Anyway check it out sometime.
