03/28/2003: "Nintendo is evil"

Well, the Nintendo game 'Legend of Zelda' series is evil anyway. I remember playing it tag-team style with my sister back on the old 8-bit machines and becoming completely hooked on it. Kelly would play for a while and get to a certain point, then help me get up to speed, then I'd play some and get further and help her get to that point. Now that 'Zelda - The Wind Waker is out, I'm doing the same thing with my daughter.

I've played every Zelda game since its inception and now I get to see my daughter enjoy the game. Oh some might scoff and say I'm horrid for encouraging a child to play video games, but let me just say this: I'm enjoying the time we're together laughing at the game, cracking jokes, solving the puzzles, fighting the evil dungeon bosses, and sharing secrets about how to pass a level. We sit together on the floor and talk and laugh and have fun. Where's the harm?

Neither of us are very big gamers in the grand sense of the word. We have maybe four or five games total and frankly, before we got the Gamecube, the N64 I inherited from my mum gathered dust. Once we beat the Zelda games for it, we lost interest. And I suppose that will happen again when we finally beat Wind Waker. Oh well, it's fun smile

Don't ask why I went on that tangent. probably because I'm sitting here at work thinking about the current dungeon I'm in and wondering how to open a certain door. A sure sign I've been playing a bit too much!

I have some of the most fun with friends playing console games. They are great for social interaction IMHO. We laugh when someone does something silly, we work together to get past the damn guard in Splintercell, and it certainly encourages us to get together more.

We goto a pub, and its loud, you cant talk properly, and you fall over at the end of the night! smile

So there..nothing wrong with consoles, after all, its just a modern board game.. right?!?
