Friday, March 28, 2003 Nintendo is evil
Well, the Nintendo game 'Legend of Zelda' series is evil anyway. I remember playing it tag-team style with my sister back on the old 8-bit machines and becoming completely hooked on it. Kelly would play for a while and get to a certain point, then help me get up to speed, then I'd play some and get further and help her get to that point. Now that 'Zelda - The Wind Waker is out, I'm doing the same thing with my daughter. I've played every Zelda game since its inception and now I get to see my daughter enjoy the game. Oh some might scoff and say I'm horrid for encouraging a child to play video games, but let me just say this: I'm enjoying the time we're together laughing at the game, cracking jokes, solving the puzzles, fighting the evil dungeon bosses, and sharing secrets about how to pass a level. We sit together on the floor and talk and laugh and have fun. Where's the harm? Neither of us are very big gamers in the grand sense of the word. We have maybe four or five games total and frankly, before we got the Gamecube, the N64 I inherited from my mum gathered dust. Once we beat the Zelda games for it, we lost interest. And I suppose that will happen again when we finally beat Wind Waker. Oh well, it's fun Don't ask why I went on that tangent. probably because I'm sitting here at work thinking about the current dungeon I'm in and wondering how to open a certain door. A sure sign I've been playing a bit too much!

I forgot to add this quote - it's a bit old but I find it funny anyway. "War is God's way of teaching Americans geography." I have no idea who said it originally - if you know, tell me

What can I write that will provoke a torrent of comments and furious debate here? Hmmm.. The war is turning out to be a good topic for that... Except I don't really have anything profound to say about it, and as I said earlier, I don't want to publicly air my views. But feel free to check out this blog by a man currently living in Baghdad. It's really engrossing. I could piss a whole slew of LotR fans off by saying I was thrilled 'Chicago' won for Best Picture (I can hear them fainting now). Basically, I knew the Academy would never choose 'Two Towers' for Best Picture no matter how much I wanted them to. But if there was one film on that list that I wouldn't mind it losing to, it was Chicago. A lot of people on some forums I've been to can't stand it - but I think the hype surrounding it has been overdone and had a negative effect. At the end of the day, it's a fecking fantastic film that overcame tremendous odds to even get produced. I haven't seen 'The Hours' or 'The Pianist' or even 'Gangs of New York' yet thanks to this dump of a town I live in - none of them even came here (well, I think Gangs did, but probably only because Leo was in it) so I'll have to wait for DVD. I'm sure they're all great films too. Wow, so like I said, I have nothing really profound and debate-tastic to talk about. No wonder I never get many comments

------------------------------Monday, March 24, 2003 More referrer stats
I'm fascinated at finding so many people interested in seeing pictures of the girl Roman Polanski raped in 1979. Anyway, in the leadup to the Oscars I had written a couple of articles about Polanski and his shady past. But now my referrer stats are crammed full of people looking for pictures of this girl (who's now in her late 30s mind you) and I'm getting keyword searches like 'rape + * * * * * * * + * * * * *' and 'rape pictures of * * * * * * * * * *. All I have to say is you people doing those searches are sick. I know this entry will eventually get spidered into Google at some point and then my blog stats will get choked with rape searches, but maybe some of them will read that I'm calling them sick twisteds and drop the matter. Leave the poor girl alone, she just wants to live in quiet anonymity. That's why I've * * *'d out her name. Moving on... I've been watching so much war coverage that I'm getting burnt out on it. I fell asleep with CNN on the other morning and had funky dreams that I was on the USS Abraham Lincoln, and that it was floating above a submarine that had someone I know from TCZ on board. So I proceeded to tell everyone on TCZ that I was floating above Domestos (the guy I know), but no one would believe me. It was weird. Never fall asleep with the news on. I'm not going to rant on about my political views here because frankly, I'd rather not. I might mention current events once in a while but I prefer to keep my views to myself. I'm in no mood to argue with people about them. Besides, this journal is about the Net and the things that I observe online and I've lost sight of that.. I'll try to get back on track with that in upcoming entries.
