I can’t believe David Duchovny’s blogging. Good for him! And audioblogging as well. What a treat and I don’t care who thinks he’s a dork. Don’t you hate it when you comment on something you find kind of cool like this and there is *always* someone who has to say something negative to bring you down? Why? Why can’t you just let people have their moment of ‘Ahhhh.’ Why must you insert your contrary opinion when it was completedly unasked for?

Annoying. Though I have to admit in all fairness that I’ve been guilty of it myself. But I think that the fact that I’m aware of this shows that I’ll stop myself from doing it in the future.

Anyway, I’m trying to get back into the habit of blogging frequently because, well I still want to write but I’ve been out of the mood. I’ve got my next column due on Thursday and I can’t decide whether to write about the ‘man on the street’s favourite show right now and comment on those or a gushy column about Ty Pennington – er I mean Extreme Home Makeover.

I was going to write about the travesty of America cannibalizing British television because we’re too braindead in the creativity department to come up with out own stuff, but Mike beat me to it already.

Ah well.

Terry Schiavo; the attention-seeking, messed up, twisted kid from Minnesota who did a Columbine without factoring in the country’s immunity to horrific acts of violence these days; little Jessica Lunsford snatched from her home by a sexual predator and killed in the worst possible way a child can be killed giving me nightmares for my own; a man unwilling to pay his debt to society so he figures he’ll just kill the judge in charge and anyone else who gets in his way…

Things are just scary weird lately and I’d rather stay in my house with my DVDs and protect my child from the dangers out there. What will I do when she’s ready to face the world on her own? How can I stop myself from worrying about her when she’s out of my sight? How can I protect her without overprotecting her? She looks so innocent and lovely sitting on the couch across the room playing silly games on the other computer. I have to preserve that somehow.

*sigh*

I totally meant to come blog about the mundane and all these worries just poured forth. Weird how that happens. Well the mundane is mundane anyway and not much changes in the daily life of Steph and Shan. I’m seriously considering moving house finally and getting out of this dinky apartment we’ve been in for 5 years. We’ve outgrown it possession-wise. Plus I think I’ll get busted for having the cat pretty soon and I want out of here before that happens. I’m coming into a bit of cash at some point that I’ll use to pay some movers because there’s no way in hell I’m moving all this crap. Nuh-uh. it’s going to be a bitch rehooking up the cable and the internet and the dvd players and TVs and the electricity and the address changes and phone numbers etc but in the ned, I hope we’ll have a better place to call home.

Anyway, I think we’re off to enjoy some more Alias on this fine Easter day. We should probably venture out and get some exercise though so perhaps we’ll go for a walk first.

I love blogging from anywhere in the house. What is it about mobility and portability that makes people happy? Freedom? The chance to do their thang wherever they want?

I think it’s the freedom.

Anyway I’m sitting in my chair in my room looking up pix for Matt the Cat and his soon-to-be-rawkin’ website and watching Extreme Home Makeover. This show makes me boo-hoo quite a lot but it’s a good feeling. Part of me wants my own house so watching this is hard because I know I’ll never get one, but I’m blown away by all the good stuff the crew does for these families. The houses they build are so amazing. Plus Ty Pennington’s hot.

I digress. Anyway, still coughing like mad. Feel better though and the energy’s coming back so *touch wood* I’m mending.

*sniffle* Ok they just revealed the house to the family and I need some kleenex. A little 8 year old girl’s wish was for the team to makeover the hospital where she spent so much time battling cancer. So Ty and team got a crew of Disney animators to help her makeover the hospital, while the makeover crew secretly demolished their home and built them a palatial spanish baronial slab of gorgeousity. Then the CEO of the builders in charge told the family they were taking care of the mortgage and I lost it.

Okay. Enough of that mushiness. It’s time to watch The Big Lebowski seeing as how Shane loaned it to me and I think he might like, want it back at some point 🙂

Night.

So I’ve had this cold for about a month now. When I start to feel better it comes back and kicks me in the chest. How annoying. I could deal with it if I could lock myself away in a private office and hack up my lungs but being in an open plan at work makes me constantly feel like I’m annoying everyone with the coughing. So I’ve tried to avoid coming to work as much as I can. Luckily I’ve got another lovely boss who would rather her employees restore their health.

Anyway that’s boring. So why haven’t I written in here for a while? I dunno. It comes in spurts. Sometimes I’m in heavy gung-ho blog mode, other times I could take it or leave it. Right now I’ve got a lot of other stuff going on so haven’t been thinking much about blogging.

Work keeps me busy, have discovered Sims 2 is pretty damn fun. Column writing, watching more TV in order to get ideas for column, flying visits from relatives, illnesses, blah blah blah, lots going on.

Anyway just checking in.

Nothing much of interest to talk about really. A small update on Kelly would be that she is now dating Matt the Cat 🙂 Isn’t that a lovely ending? They’ve been practically inseparable since she arrived and I think Kelly’s rather smitten 🙂 Awwwww.

My sixth column is out today. Wrote about nitpickers and people who always argue about your taste in TV. You hear that Corey? My column started off with you 😉

What else… had some illness in the family with the kidand catching the normal seasonal cold. She had it first and now it’s my turn. I seem to be fighting it pretty well with lots of drugs and it didn’t last long in the kid either so hopefully it won’t become long and drawn out.

Bad timing though as Biodad is in town for a bit. But who cares about the cold, it’s been really great to see him again. Wish we lived closer. Also wish circumstances were a little better for his visit. His father’s gravely ill with cancer and it’s been said that he doesn’t have much time left. He’s 81. I think I need to get over my fear of meeting him because I’d kind of like to know him a little. I did get to meet Gary’s sister, Jo, from Lincoln and she’s really great – seems like a lot of fun. We’re going to meet them and her kids (grownup kids I should say) for coffee this afternoon. Well, coffe for them, something cold for me to keep me from coughing.

Anyway that’s about all the excitement around here.

So Kelly made it to DC, beat the big storm and got the job. She also managed to find a place to live and shop at Ikea before her first day on the job as well as visit Matt the Cat at the XM studios for a wrap-up interview. Well done kiddo 🙂

My lovely friend Corey wrote a nice message about her in his blog that made me swell with pride for my sister. It’s been an exciting trip for Kelly and for me even and a testament to the power of both radio and the Internet. Thanks XM Radio and thanks Charter 😀

Hehehe… We’ve been having a blast chatting with Matt the Cat at XM Radio. We emailed back and forth a little and I told him Kelly ended up getting a job as a result of a phone interview she had as she drove through Utah and he seemed really chuffed about that 🙂 During his show tonight Kelly called in to tell him herself and give an update on her progress. Later on she called me and told me she ended up chatting with him for about half an hour (which would explain the weirdly long succession of songs played at that time 🙂

Oh yeah, I’m listening myself via the ‘net. So I got to hear the “Cross-Country Kelly” update. Later on the kidlet gave him a call to request a song for Kelly and he ended up playing their call on the air, which Shan really got a kick out of (ok I did as well. That was neat! Hope Kelly caught it!)

Anyway it sounds as if Matt the Cat will be a cool friend for Kelly to have once she hits town and he seems to really care about making sure she gets off to a good start in her new life out there in politicsland.

Anyway thought I’d give a bit of an update 🙂
